I have an Idea Jubilee, bring Adults and Kids/Teenagers together and let them discuss about if it is nowadays eaysier in School or back in their Days or if they say they had it heavier in their Time. The Reason is, it seems Adults nowadays underestimate the stuff Kids/Teenagers learn now in School and kinda overestimate what they learned in School. I am curious if that's the same in the US. Nowadays the Kids/Teenagers always start sooner and sooner to learn another Language and also start with Algebra in Elemantary School. Is that the same in the US?

Tanzy is so right! There's been so many times where my grade in a subject changed because I got a new teacher. I don't think this issues gets enough recognition since no one ever talks about. Where I Iive we get "oral grades", basically grades based on what you say and how you behave in class (you get that in every subject except of PE) and I just think it's ridiculous how the "privileged" students (mostly natives) tend to get the straight A's, while the others (mostly foreigners) never really get past a B or B+ even though they do just as good, sometimes even better.!

I think the thing about grades and school subjects is that they have become a one way street. You can't treat everyone like they have the same interests, talents and types of intelligence. A lot of people who flunked at school and hated the subjects, were actually very smart in other things and still managed to succeed in life.

Personally, I think it's not the grades that should be focused by the teacher but changing the learning system. That could help students engage deeply with the lessons.

Tanzy has self-esteem issues and when she gets to college and finds out there are students far more advanced and bright than she is, her self-confidence is going to slowly dwindle in a downwards spiral. Imagine basing your intelligence on your grades. That shows no concept of the outside world besides school. How embarrassing is that? Lol...

I don't know, maybe it's about the mindset. I was super slow when I was younger and couldn't do the math to save my life but as I hit freshman year I worked my ass off and graduated with a 3.7 GPA. Not the best but I was content since I was also in a sports team, a pianist in a band, and sing competitively at the time. Ended up going to an art school cause my drawing and painting skill are more prominent ...you're young just do what makes you guys happy :)

letter grades don’t really matter. as long as you understand what you’re being taught, that basically all that matters. i know i’m a smart kid but i have bad grades. i don’t care what a letter says about me. i understand what i’m being taught. what i don’t understand is how their teaching it. my math teacher teaches us in hard ways that we kids don’t understand and she thinks we don’t know about whatever she’s teaching. we could get better grades if she just wasn’t so hard on us. my social studies teacher is the best guy you’ll ever meet. he’s really chill and makes sure you understand what he’s teaching. if you don’t quite get it, he tells you a simpler way of what he’s saying. my math teacher, however, tells you the same thing over and over again. that is not a good way to teach a student. letter grades do not matter. if you know what is going on, you’re fine

The slow kids aren't the bright kids' equals, it's that simple. We are not all of equal intellectual ability. The slow students have their niche, the bright ones theirs, and that's fine. We can't make everyone happy.

Randy is kinda ignorant I mean you gotta do your work and you gotta work hard that’s just part of school. he just ignores turning in his work on time and decides to do the fun things with his friends. But the harder you work in school the easier it will be for you in the later life. He needs to grow up.

Thing is that bad grades in school doesn't point to lack of intelligence and good grades spent necessarily point to being intelligent. Making good grades in school means you can request what you're told and isn't necessarily knowledge

In my opinion. School is like Bulimia. They stuff random unnecessary knowledge in your head, and then you puke it out on the test and forget about what you’ve learnt. If anybody else has a different opinion I’d love to I hear it. Please reply your opinion on this comment.

Most things in commonly agreed is: Parents don't help with homework b/c they tired or don't know the subject Teachers can be strict or easy on the amount of workload. They can pick favorites(shocker) Grades are defined as smartness of the subject, but we are smart in other ways from the knowledge of anything we pick up externally such as from friends, family, cultures, online aspects.

Guys, I really recommend this book called "A mind for numbers" by Barbara Oakley. She talks about learning how to learn (she also did a TedTalk), procrastination, and different learning methods. It took me years to figure out how I learn. I went from being terrible at math & science to being a senior Biomedical Engineering major in college. This book really did wonders for me :)

not all strait A students stay up late When I was a freshman I got strait A's in both semesters, but it was because I understood everything and I did my work in class. But it also helped that I had 1 or two friends who were better at me in a subject, because they could help me, or we'd get competative. And as my hs years went on I became more introverted and didn't really interact with people, so my grades started to drop, but like I still had a few A's, and maybe one or two D's, but that was because I wasn't doing home work. I did however fail my second semester of Honors Algebra 2 by .2% (god darn you Mr. Duffy would it have killed you to raise that 59.7%) Because I was always falling asleep during that time (I blame my lunch schedule). So the moral? Find a motivation and surround yourselves with people who are smarter than you. Because at least they might let you cheat off of them if you don't understand. -Graduate of 2020 (yes, the drive through picture thing was depressing).
foop
foop 9 ditë më parë
Honestly, I got the best grades in my class, not because I studied more, but because I was much more responsible. My parents let me manage my time at a young age, so I could make mistakes in earlier grades, and build up a better pattern for grades. For my math assessments, instead of getting 5-10 done in a week, I did a single test over that week, working on each question for 30 minutes, and looking through my notes to see better ways to answer, and quicker methods.

My brother is also doing the driving picture! I used to be straight all A's, but it all went downhill. Maybe it was just me seeing lack of value in a A. I show my parents a B+ and they say I need to raise it, it's a passing grade right?
