In a previous video I made called "3 Ways to Remove a Wheel Lock Without a Key", there were a lot of suggestions on how I could have removed the wheel lock easier or faster with less effort. Today we will try some of those suggestions and see how well they work on 4 different types of wheel lug nut locks.

Heat the wheel nut and use the old dissimilar expansion. Fill your sock with ice and whack it on those all-fashion wheels. Get a vehicle with 21mm wheel nuts.

I've seen tyre fitters using old sockets when customers can't find their keys. I though the grinder method to make two flats, was brilliant.

Another idea that came across my mind, is to drill a hole(quite difficult) or use the grinder to make a cut between the moving ring and the safety nut that utilizes it, so you can lock it with a small metal particle and therefore be able to use any method that is proper, in order to catch it and turn it. Could you also make a wax cast, in order to replicate the unique shape of any safety nut? If these are not the best final products(ideas), please develop/adapt them as necessary.

Why don' t you tighten a normal nut, at the place of every security nut? This way, it will relief the strain from the security nuts next to it. Then, you can slowly relief the strain again, from the normal ones. And you can also keep a metal shield with a hole just big enough for your tools you are planning to use. This way, you can protect the rim from hits and melted electrodes. These are basically the only things that I noticed. Nice video. From Greece, with love!

Just a tip. Tighten all the other nuts on the wheel before attempting the lock nut. This will take as much tension as possible off of the lock but.

With Mopar locks, it may be possible to use the cold chisel to remove the ring. Then use the removal tool, or weld on a nut. in any case, you must provide as much protection to the wheel so that you don't damage it. Great video!!

Got a cutting torch? Yes? Well then, spark that sucker on, adjust the oxygen to get that oh so beautiful little pale blue cone, touch cone tip to log, when it glows, press the tab and make a puddle. Now repeat times the number of nuts.

Just wondering how tight the lug nuts were. If they were at spec say 125 ft lbs would they be easier to take off. Sometimes the shops slap them on too tight. Get a torque wrench and check them when you get home. I seriously had a huge puncher in my tire and I couldn't get off the lug nuts with my 4 way because they were so tight. Just sayin that could make a difference.

there are companies on ebay that sell these key sockets,all you gotta do is send them a photo of it along with photos of your driving licence,and v5 ownership form

I had the Ocelating Rings ones on my 98 TJ, after loads of searching i found a guy who drives MAC trucks who use the same lug locks, he had an extra key and sent me it and was magically the right one, one out of a couple hundred styles and i got a replacement key for free luckiest day of my life considering I melted a stud out just to get one off prior

I think the "cutting a slot" method might work if you ditched the screwdriver and substituted a hardened piece of flat steel (rectagular shaped) and turn it with vise grips or pipe wrench. You might have to cut a little bit wider slot.

@BleepinJeep Yeah, my biggest concern is someone taking my wheels in the middle of the night, so I'm in the market trying to find the most thief resistant ones... Luckily, I don't think a welding kit is in your average thieves inventory

So the lessons to be learned are; 1) Don't lose your lugnut key. 2) Take off the locking lugnuts when you buy the car and replace them with regular lugnuts (and don't have expensive wheels if you live in a high crime area).

The flat blade was too small. Use a Drag Link Socket Bit, 1/2"Dr, 15/16"

<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="364">6:04</a>.... and......if you turn the vicegrips over so they're turning the right way. Some people don't seem to understand that channelocks, vicegrips, even crescent wrenches, were designed to grip better turning in one direction than the other.

Strange that you used the vice grips and the crescent wrench BACKWARDS. Both are designed to be used in one direction, opposite that you used.

I bought new tires and wheel for my RWD 2005 Ford Ranger Edge pickup. I also installed McGard wheel locks. Unfortunately the rear wheel studs were kinda long which popped the face of the McGard locks. So I took my Tonya Harding and beat a socket onto what was left of the McGard. Came right off! I put the McGard and my socket in the bench vise (socket up). Then took a punch and gave the McGard a good hit with the Tonya Harding. Viola! Sometimes a guy just has to give it a good whack! When welding the nut on you want as large a nut as possible and weld inside. Fill the inside with weld the LET IT COOL as the heat cycle will loosen the nut. Remember, often the key isn't lost on NEW nuts, its lost from locks that have been in place for YEARS.

there is a special socket that has spring loaded pins inside. When you push it on the pins move back to take up the shape of the recesses in and around the nut

This is hilarious. First, never hammer on your socket. Hammer on an extension because the hammer will distort the 4-point socket and make it so you can't insert the ratchet. Second, the Mopar ring can be driven back with a 15/16 socket just enough to allow a 7/8 socket to bite on the tip. Third, use impact sockets. Standard sockets will crack. 25 years in tire business and I do this at least once a day and all I need is small 2lb. sledge and sockets. The wheels are not damaged and the sockets are still usable. DON'T use impact wrench on lock removers, they will not bite properly.

I would never do none of this to my Aftermarket wheels. My advice try a lugnuts with an actual key, just like a key lock if you get what I mean. It's a key you stick inside the lugnut, and it unlocks it

Set your high end wheels in you chicken coop for about a month and let your chickens put a real nice dropping patina on them and you won't need the wheel locks in the first place.

Ouch. Informative stuff but watching the destruction of what might be (for the viewer) a wheel worth saving was tough. Machine shop videos are pretty good for picking up tips, tricks or tools that avoid damaging valuable metal items or works-in-progress. Good segment, though.

Had a very nice Citroen C5 (maybe you don't see them in the US of A. Some idjit in one of those kwik tire fitting places overtightened the lug nuts with an air hammer. Tried most of your advice without success. The problem is when they're overtightened to that extent the bolts are stretched and it's almost like they're welded on. The last chance saloon for me before taking the car have the wheel cut up with a gas axe was heating up an undersized socket, hammering it on with a club hammer and letting it cool. Three foot wrecking bar on the socket and it eventually went off with a crack. Success? Not a chance. Those clever guys in France had designed in a weak spot so with that much pressure it sheared off the head of the bolt, leaving a nice shiny flat surface. Off to the tool store, bought a set of German made tungsten drill bits and spent a happy four hours working through the sizes until it cleaned it out. Luckily didn't damage the thread on the hub. Then to the breakers yard, bought four proper bolts and the 'security' rubbish into the trash. If your car has those nasties I'd replace them with ordinary bolts. Who ever heard of alloy wheels being stolen nowadays? Same with radios. (At least here in the low crime UK).

I gots questions. 1. Did you disconnect the battery and unplug the ecm/bcm/pcm in the vehicle? The current you send through the car when welding can shock computers. This can pop all your fuses and fry onboarding electronics. This is more precautionary as it CAN happen. 2. Your not applying heat to the wheel and probably didnt really put heat into wheel. But your not supposed to weld on or near an inflated tire. Overheating can cause death or serious injury due to rapid expansion and tire case failure. 3. I know your at home, but your air hammer is good for masonry. Not automotive applications. Last but not least. You should tell owners to leave wheel locks in the glove box so mechanics dont have to fuck a wheel lug up.

On the Mopars we usually use a chisel to remove the spinning part, a couple well aimed hits will split the ring, then can either use 12point or the AutoZone removal tool

Take a picture of the locking wheel nut. Send it to one of the online companies and you will get a replacement key. No wheel damage and you can reuse the wheel nuts. I’ve done this, £50 well spent

only pussies use wheel locks. As you found out no lock can actually stop anyone that's determined. Pros probably have keys for all the wheel locks anyway, it might keep a amateur at bay, but not a pro. Don't put fancy expensive wheels on, then you won't have to worry about it none.

you need to learn how to use a "cresent" wrench and vise grips. You're using them backwards. The vise grips would have bitten in better if reversed. Same with crescent

Ive worked in a garage for years what i do is put a very big nut over the bolt and weld it on the inside normally use a big socket and a long bar...

You also did the same with the crescent wrench, your using it in the wrong direction for loosening, if you were to flip wrench 180 in your hand you would have it in the right direction for loosening. ...hope that makes sense
